What is a Social Media Business Maven?

A maven is a word used to describe a woman who is an expert or enthusiast. It is an English word, coming to us through Yiddish, with it’s ultimate source being the Hebrew “mevin,” “one who understands.”  This is not a word used lightly. A maven isn’t a groupie. A maven implies maturity, wisdom, and most definitely the acquired knowledge in a subject to be able to teach others. A maven you want in your corner directing you. Mavens have excelled by hard work, determination, and the ability to out-think others.

Consider mavens like Elizabeth I of England. She was a powerful ruler who spent time learning about her country, its people, and how to best keep it at peace. Elizabeth was caring and determined that her country and its people would have a quality life and kept that truth for an incredible amount of years.

Mother Teresa was a maven for those who could not take care of themselves. A woman who knew and understood the people she helped so powerfully because she learned what their life was like. She was compassionate yet determined that she would help others and made huge changes in the lives of countless poor in Calcutta. A shining example of her power was when she refused the fancy dinner when she won the Nobel Peace Prize and asked that the funds and the $192,000 prize be given to the poor in India.

A maven is prevailing. Determination and fortitude are what make her successful in any situation. She does not give up and is constantly learning how to create a more credible way to get something done. Resolute, there is no words like “can’t” or “won’t” in her vocabulary. She is about finding the best solution and putting it into practice.
